2004 - Hawaiian Rumble Minature Golf
The 4th annual Harris Cup National Miniature Golf Championships were held on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Hawaiian Rumble Miniature Golf in Orlando, Florida. Contestants from Virginia to California and even from Sweden, the home of the winner, came out to play for the title of National Miniature Golf Champion. Maybe we should now say International Miniature Golf Champion as Hans Olofsson of Sweden walked away with the coveted Harris Cup trophy and a check for $5,000!
The tournament was played over two very competitive rounds. The first round was a shotgun start and the second round seeded. The Golf Channel was on hand to capture all the action and LeaderBoard of Orlando scored the tournament almost instantly as the cards were turned in.
Players in the Harris Cup earned their berth in the tournament by winning a qualifying event at various Harris Miniature Golf built courses around the country.
It was a close race after the first round with three players just 1 stroke apart. The second round clinched the victory for Olofsson. With a total two round score of 72 (37/35), he emerged the undisputed winner. Tom Comstock, of Florida followed in 2nd with a score of 74 (36/38). Richard Lochner, also of Sweden, was 3rd posting a 75 (38/37). Matt McCaslin of North Carolina was leading coming into the second round, but the pressure proved too much and he scored a 76 (35/41) to finish in fourth place.
This prestigious event, which has a total purse of $10,000, was presented by Harris Miniature Golf, designers and builders of miniature golf facilities all over the country. Additional sponsors were Master Pitching Machines, Jane Farrell Turf and Carpets, and SGD Golf.
