2005 - Atlantic City Boardwalk

The 5th annual Harris Cup National Miniature Golf Championships were held on Sunday, September 25 on the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. Contestants from 16 states as well as Denmark and Sweden competed for the coveted Harris Cup and the title of National Miniature Golf Champion, with Leader Board on hand to handle the scoring as soon as the cards were turned in.

Also attending the event was award-winning sand sculptor John Gowdy, who crafted an underwater scene of two mermaids holding putters. The tableau stopped foot traffic on the boardwalk the entire day.

Players in the Harris Cup earned their berth in the tournament by winning a qualifying event at various Harris Miniature Golf built courses around the country. Both rounds on the 18 hole course got under way after a shotgun start, and after an intense tie-breaking playoff, the tournament was won by Roger Beckman of Ohio who walked away with the Cup and a check for $3,000.

Second and third places were taken by Kare Thompson and Allan Knudson, both of Denmark. A catered lunch was enjoyed by the players and their families at the Trump Plaza Hotel/Casino following the awarding of trophies and cash prizes. This prestigious event, which to date has awarded more than $50,000 in cash and prizes, was sponsored by Jane Farrell Turf and Carpets, Master Pitching Machines, and Pareto-SGD.
